What Causes High-Achieving Women to Experience Fatigue and Frustration on Their Path to Success

You are quite the power house. Look at what you’ve accomplished.

High-achieving women often have a lot of balls in the air, and to the point that things can come to a head.

It can seem like an uphill battle at times, especially when unexpected challenges occur… and there will be challenges.

We often blame our fatigue on our workload. However, we all have the same hours in the day, and people pull it off all the time without exhaustion.

So what are they doing differently?

There are two important variables at play. One is the lens we view the challenges through.

Your work becomes much more enjoyable once you change the lens. Also, your sense of self and your abilities change.

I was out walking trails the other day and encountered a really large hill. Initially, I thought, “Wow, that looks like a lot!”

But my very next thought mattered the most. In fact, it could make or break my experience. I had a choice. I could see it as an uphill battle and allow it to weigh heavily on me.

Or, I could view it as a stepping stone to where I was going and what I wanted to accomplish. That shift in perspective mattered.

It alleviated the pain of getting locked in and stuck in my head and created a shift toward perseverance.

The second variable is self-care. No, I am not talking about a spa day. I am talking about refocusing and setting intentions. Intention sets the stage.

It is a form of self-care because when we choose to be intentional and set the stage for what is to come when we experience hills and mountains, we shape our experience. That is powerful!

Justifying our fatigue with oh, I am so busy, sets the stage for negativity.

Your emotions related to the “mountain” you are encountering are fleeting. But your feelings surrounding it, stay with you as long as you let it.

You can choose to stay in the cycle of feeling overwhelmed. Or you can choose to embrace the challenge, feel gratitude for what it will be like on the other side when you conquer that challenge.

Why Mindset and Self-Care Matter for High-Achieving Women

This is all especially true for high achieving women who are experiencing that disconnect between our external success and achievements and our internal conflicts associated with self-doubt and perfectionism.

This is what I call the Success Paradox. How we take on the mountains and challenges encountered along the way can feed into that conflict of not feeling enough.

We are enough. There is evidence based on what we have achieved.

But there is a shift that needs to occur for us to enjoy our accomplishments and to smooth the path that our emotions and mindset can make so bumpy at times.

We deserve that. I encourage you to make choices that serve you and move you forward in a positive direction.

Let's meet up again next week for another episode.
